David and Kate Bagby have been through hell, and somehow they're not only still standing, but are continuing to try and make the world a better place -- a place where no one else will be subjected to what they went through.

In November 2001, their only son Andrew was murdered in the U.S. by a crazed ex-girlfriend, who fled to Canada to avoid prosecution, where she discovered she was pregnant with Andrew's child -- the only grandchild that Kate & David Bagby would ever have. They moved to Canada in order to be near their grandson, whom the killer named Zachary, but because Canada naively let this woman walk free on bail during the extradition process, they had maintain a civil relationship with their son's murderer in order to see their grandson; they did so in order to forge a strong relationship with Zachary, so that when his mother finally went to prison, he would know them, be comfortable with them and have a smooth transition into their life. But because Canada let the killer walk free, she had the opportunity to kill again, killing herself and baby Zachary in the middle of an August night in 2003.

Having now lost their entire bloodline, they have become activists for bail reform in Canada, pursuing the implementation of a law denying bail to people accused of murder while awaiting trial -- a law that would have saved Zachary's life had it been in place in 2003. David has written a best-selling book, "Dance with the Devil", as an argument for change, and they continue to travel and speak throughout Canada and the United States. They also now do work with at-risk children, Kate having become a child advocate in Santa Clara County in 2005.
